“Help each other, children: A children's Magic Lantern Entertainment was given in the above school on Monday evening last, at six o'clock, to a gathering of about 80 children, by Capt. Grummett and Nurse Johnson. Mr. Griffiths, the schoolmaster, rendering invaluable assistance. The subjects included 'Little Red Riding Hood,' 'Cinderella,' 'The Sweep and Whitewasher,' concluding with numerous comic slides. The Captain gave a short description of each picture as it appeared on the screen, and several favourite hymns were sung by the children. At the conclusion a collection was made amounting to 3/-, which was to be forwarded to our less fortunate little brothers and sisters in London. Altogether the children spent a very enjoyable evening.”
