DOWNES-SHAW, Reverend A. (1857-1939) – lecturer
“On Jan. 21, we met as usual in the market-place for open-air Service. We then marched to Church with our small band playing, to hear the Rev. A. Downes-Shaw preach on Church Army Labour Homes, and Rescue work. On Monday 22, he gave a lecture and limelight views on the work. We feel that God has greatly blessed his sermon and lecture to all who was present. The offertories at Church were 5p 12s. 8d., lecture 1p 4s. 6d., which was divided between the General and Local Funds. God is blessing the work here with souls of men coming out for Jesus. ”
