“A lot of happy people: I write this report with feelings of thankfulness to Almighty God for sending me among such a lot of happy people as they are here in this corpse. I am only a poor converted navvy myself, and need helping along. Praise God, He has directed me right since I gave Him my heart on February last. It was through Capt. Johnson, of Shirehampton, speaking to me about the state of my soul. I was led to Southampton to seek for employment, and I soon found out the Corps here, and had a hearty welcome from Capt. and Mrs. Brockless and Soldiers. It is a help to me being here. We have had a Tea and an Entertaining Evening, given by the Curate and Captain, consisting of Lantern Views and Lecture on 'Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress,' which was thoroughly appreciated. Last Monday the C.A. Choir gave a Service of Song, entitled, 'Jessica's First Prayer,' to a good audience, the Vicar giving the connective readings. We believe a good sum has thus been handed in towards reducing the debt on the New Mission Hall. It cheers our heart to see such good congregations to hear the word of God. May God save the people is our earnest prayer.”
