“'Lecture on 'In Darkest England'': On Tuesday evening an interesting lecture was given in the Church Army mission-room on the above subject by the evangelist Mr. A. Hawker. The lecture was illustrated by a magic lantern, which was manipulated by Mr. Lloyd and Mr. Painter. The Rev. J. Daniel presidede, and there was a fair attendance. Having given an account of the council which met at the Jerusalem Chamber at Westminster Abbey in the year 1882, the lecturer went on to speak of the Church Army Social Scheme, which he said, was a tried one, and had the support of such men as the Achbishop of Canterbury, (...).
