‘Village Work’ in Band of Hope chronicle

“Village Work - It is not very often that a lecturer can report the delivery of seventeen fully illustrated lectures in four days, especially when the conditions involved a considerable amount of travelling. Such is the record of Mr. Frank Adkins, the Village Lecture of the Union, during the recent mission in Dorset. The mission opned in the scattered village of Bagber, where the village school was addressed in the afternoon and two lantern lectures given in the evening of the day on which the mission opened. Three school lectures were given at Sturminster Newton next day, and in the evening two lantern lectures at Stalbridge. On the following morning two schools at Stalbridge were addressed and in the evening two lantern lectures given at Marnzull. The fourth day's work included a school lecture at Marnhull, another at Todbere, yet another at Henstridge and two lantern lectures in thet last-named place, thus completing the seventeen engagements. The local friends, who are few and heavily handi-capped, expressed much gratitude for the important impetus given to their work by means of the mission. It is an interesting circumstances that Marnhull is the native village of Adam Ayles, an enthusiastic teetotaler, and the champion's old schoolfellows, both teetotalers, were present at Mr. Adkins' lecture. ”
