“Winter Evening Entertainments. - During the winter season every Band of Hope should arrange for at least one lecture with dissolving views. The apparatus and the large stock of slides possessed by the Union has been recently renovated and the high character of these entertainments will be more than maintained during the coming season. A new set, entitled 'Pictures and Stories for Little Folks,' has been specially painted by a first class artist, and also a new and interesting set of miscellaneous views. The Union possesses four sets of apparatus, but as it sometimes happends that five or more lectures are requested for the same evening, our friends would do well to make early application. The panorama, 'Jessica's First Prayer,' may also be obtained by application through the metropolitan auxiliaries. Mr. Frank Adkins will visit the provinces with specially selected sets of first-class views, and early application should be made for his services. These entertainments are now so well known and so highy appreciated that no difficulty is experienced in securing a large audience, and by means of a very little effort, not only may a most interesting and useful evening be secured, but at the same time a considerable pecuniary profit for other operations may be obtained. In preparing their winter programme provincial societies should certainly include one or more lectures by Mr. Adkins.”
