“City and Finsbury.-The eighth report of this important Union records continued progress and much useful work. The annual meeting was presided over progress and much useful worl. The annual meeting was presided over by Rev. E. A. Stuart, M. A., Vicar of St. James, useful in retaining the senior members. A series of six aggregate meetings were held in various parts of the borough, at each of which an elocutionary competition was held, and a lecture, entitled 'The Temperance Sketch Book,' illustrated by Dissolving Views, was given by Mr. Walter N. Edwards, of the Parent Union. Prizes were offered for reports of the lecture, reciting, pen and ink, and pencil drawings, and for girls the best samples of plain and fancy needlework, crochetting, and knitting. Useful conferences of workers were held, and an enjoyable excursion of workers made to High Beach. The speakers' plan had been well sustained, as had also been the permanent choir, under the leadership of Mr. J. W. Hardwidge. The number of associated societies is 116, and the membership over 16,000.”
