ADKINS, Frank (1845-1928) – lecturer
UK Band of Hope Union – organiser
“Mr. Frank Adkins - The services of Mr. Frank Adkins as Organising Agent and Lecturer were found very useful. He visited every town and important village in Glamorgan and Monmouthshire with a view to the formation of a Union for those counties. Under the auspieces of the Middlesex Union Mr. Adkins rendered signal service in arousing interest in the movement in that district. Considerable attention was devoted to work in East Kent, personal interviews being obtained with almost every prominent worker in Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone, and Hythe. In addition to his work of visitation and organisation during the day, Mr. Adkins in the evening delivered a specially prepared lecture, illustrationg the worthlessness of intoxicating liquor as a food, the information thus imparted being of much educational importance. The demand for Mr. Adkins' services as a lecturer with the Dissolving Views was exceptionally great, a larger proportion than usual of distant towns arranging for a visit. In Cornwall, and in North and South Wales especially, some excellent meetings were held. Altogether Mr. Adkins delivered 158 lectures and addresses, attended by upwards of 32,000 persons, besides rendering valuable help in the office in connection with the Competitive Examination and other special efforts of the Union.”
