“Thornton Heath, Surrey - The Second anniversary of the Seneca Road Society was recently held at the Lecture Hall. After tea, a short programme of varied was gone through. Subesequently a public meeting was held, at which the Rev. W.J. Jupp presided. A number of the members under the conductorship of Mr. A. Taylor, sang a selection of temperance songs and hymns. The secrtary (Mr. A.F. Bezant, jun.) read the report and balance sheet for the past twelve months. The former showed that during the year fourty-five meetings had been held, three quarterly tea meetings, two lectures, and a dissolving view entertainment; and in July the members where taken to an excursion to Box Hill, a large number of friends accompaying them. At the close of last year, there were 174 members on the register, about ninety of them paying a quarterly subscription of 6 1/2d. A library has also been formed, containing 106 volumes. The receipts during the year amounted to ₤32, and the expenditure ₤30.Mr. A. Hills delivered an earnest and interesting adress. The chairman distributed prizes and medals to the members, and in doing so spoke words of encouragement to each of the recipients. Miss Drewett and Mr. E. Luckett also addressed the meeting.”
