“Boxing night being a time of temptation to many, a social gathering of the branch and its friends was held in the schools on that evening. This year it was particularily successful. 310 sat down to tea, and during the evening about 350 were present. After tea, a Christmas-tree bazaar was held in aid of the funds of the society, the articles on the tree having been given by the ladies of the parish and other friends. Numerous entertainments were provided, dissolving views, Punch and Judy, weighing machine, &c., and a most enjoyable evening was spent, finishing with a concert which lasted until eleven o'clock.”
