“A Dumb Preacher.' - Platt'S Commen, Barnsley. - The 'York' No. II. Van, which was dedicated on the top of the highest hill in Yorkshire, by the Ven. Archdeacon Eyre, Vicar of Sheffield, on Feb. 4, has just completed ist first mission. At the dedication the Archdeacon gave a very appropriate address in the church, on the words found in St. Mark xiv. 15. 'An upper room, furnished, and prepared,' and applied them very well to the Van and its future work. A number of Officers from the surrounding district were present, including Capt. Nye, of the 'York' Van I., Capt. Patrick (late cadet of 'York' I., now in charge of York II.), and Capt. Prior, from Headquaters, who, from the Van, gave a very interesting address on the work of the C.A., after which at the Vicar's (Rev. H.T. Sale, M.A.) kind invitation, we adjourned to tea. The Van was then taken to the above district of the Holyland Nether Parish, there to commence a fortnight's mission, which was concluded on Sunday last. The services were held in our mission room, the room being full almost every night. Much good has been done, the place thouroughly stirred up, and many careless ones, who would not come to the services have read the Gospel message from the outside of the Van, as it stood admidst the houses - a silent protest against sin, and declaration of the Love of God. The lantern service and address on the lIfe of Christ was specially blessed to many hearts - scarcely o dry eye was in the room as we looked upon the scenes of the suffering of our blessed Lord. The lantern lecture on the work of the Church Army was well received, and opened the eyes of many as the great and noble work of the Army of our Church. Many have testified to special blessings being received - sinners brought to Christ - believers strengthened - cold hearts warmed up - warm hearts set ablaze - as a result of the labours of Capt. Patrick and Cadet Colthorpe, being specially blessed by God; and many mission memorial cards have been asked for and received. Others have volunteered for confirmation, to sign the pledge, and to join a Bible calss; also some ask for work for Christ. At the closing service all hearts were full as we sang, 'God be with you till we meet again.' Associate-Capt. F.H. Longley.”
