“The proof of the pudding is in the eating: 'Whene'er we meet, you always say, What's the news to-day?' Why, what the magic lantern is doing in our Parish. Yes, it is called magic, and we believe the magic power is the Holy Ghost. The first Lantern Service was held in our Mission Room on Oct. 27, at 7.30, when our room was full. We commenced our Service with a few slides on the Evening Prayer. Then followed the Churchman's testimony - our dear old Creed (illustrated). As we sat gazing at the crucifixion, the great offering of Divine Love, the Captain repeated, 'He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our inquity. He was crucified.' Then very softly we sang - 'When I survey the wondrous Cross.' After this we listened to the sweet story, 'The way to Heaven.' I wonder, dear reader, do you know the way to Heaven? or are you trying to make a way? Oh! stop and consider; there is only one way, Jesus said, 'I am the way, the truth, and the Life.' Our second Magic Lantern Service (the Litany, illustrated) was held on Nov. 3. The Service commenced at 7.30, and we ought not to forget to say that some of our friends had to walk three or four miles to this Service. At the close of this we sang, 'O God our hope in ages past.' Then followed a Coffee Supper, which was new to us folk down in North Devon. We had heard the town folk say how they enjoyed it, and now we have enjoyed it too, believing the proverbial saying, 'The proof of the pudding is in the eating.' The testimony (unsolicited) concerning these Magic Lantern Services is this: - 'We have not enjoyed anything so much for years.' We hope to have many more happy evenings with the magic lantern, and we pray the Holy Ghost may be in the pictures, and makes them speak to the hearts of us all.”
