The 'A.T.C.' lettering on the known examples of the slides suggests that they were used for training in aircraft recognition for the British Air Training Corps.
The earliest possible date is based on the inclusion of the Fairey Fulmar, first flown in January 1940. Most of the other identified aircraft are from the mid to late 1930s.
