'Now John, remember the cookery book says, 'a young turkey has smooth legs and full eyes.' Be sure and get a young bird'

'You can't hocuss me,' said John to the dealer. 'I know a young turkey when I see it. The legs should be smooth, the eyes full'

'That's a nice looking turkey,' thought John, 'his eyes are full enough, and if his legs aren't rough.'

But his legs were rough; in fact, his wings and beak and every individual feather of him was rough

John left the pen rather hurriedly without having decided on any bird, and hastened home.
