The incident described in this set, known as the 'Shangani Patrol' or 'Wilson's Patrol', took place on 3-4 December 1893 north of the Shangani River in Matabeleland in Rhodesia (today Zimbabwe).
The Salvation Army catalogue uses the title Matabeleland.
