“13 Slides, Coloured. With Reading.

Effie Saunders, whose mother is dead, keeps house for her father, a fisherman. One day he tells her that he must take a longer voyage than usual, and that he will not be back that night. During the evening a heavy storm came on, and Effie runs down to the cliffs in anxiety regarding her father. She kneels on the beach, heedless of the storm, and prays to God to watch over her father, and bring him safe home again. All through that night little Effie stays on the beach, watching for the return of the boats from the fishing grounds. At length her prayer is answered, but Effie is laid up by her long exposure, and Jack Saunders thinks she is to die. However, the doctor manages to pull her through, and Effie and her father go off to the country for a holiday. This story is a very fine one all over, and this summary gives little idea of its excellence. The slides, like the reading, are also particularly good.”
