Illustrated sacred solos

General description of this series
Notes

A series of hymn slide sets published by Newton & Co.

Researcher’s notes

It seems possible that some of the later items in this series are reissues or rebadging of corresponding sets by York & Son and/or Graystone Bird - need to see some examples of either to be able to confirm that.

Catalogue entries (3)
1909
Catalogue of science lanterns, optical lanterns, dissolving-view apparatus, and lantern slides (London: Newton & Co., 1909), 338-345

“In these Sets of Slides the words do not appear on the screen at all. The Solo should be sung by someone whose words can be distinctly heard, and the pictures are to be shown in the order given below as the singing proceeds. In the case of hymns there is usually one picture to each verse.

These Illustrated Solos are most effective. One or more should be used at every Lantern Service.

The first 22 of these Solos are available for Hire on the ordinary terms (see page at end of Catalogue), the remainder are included in, and can only be hired with, the New Lantern Services described on pages 319 to 332.”
