Notes

His family name was Richard James Meade, also known as Lord Gillford until 1879 when he succeeded to his father's title (Irish Peerage) as the 4th Earl of Clanwilliam.

He was appointed Admiral in 1886, Admiral of the Fleet in 1895, and retired in 1902.
