“On Friday evening, April 14, a magic lantern exhibition of dissolving views in connection with the Band of Hope was given in Manor-street Baptist Chapel. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather there was a good attendance of children, who listened very attentively to the lecturer as he described the views which consisted of mechanical slides, home and American scenery, Grace Darling, and Pilgrim's Progress. During the evening several hymns were sung, which had been practised for the occasion. After the usual votes of thanks a very pleasant evening was brought to the close by the Rev. Mr. Downie pronoucing the benediction.”
