“Plumstead Village Wesleyan Band of Hope - The First Annual Meeting of this Society was held on Tuesday, Feb. 26. Mr. Geo. Radford presided. The presented by the Conductor showed that steady progress had been made during the past year, the statistics showing an increase of 51 members, the total number of members being 91, average attendance 60. The children sang and recited a number of pieces during the evening, to the enjoyment of all present, at the conclusion of which, Mr. W. H. Barber gave an interesting lecture on 'Egypt' with dissolving views. Prizes were presented by Miss Lowrie for Good Conduct, Attendance, Reciting, Modelling and Needlework &c. Miss Hopewell presented medals to those who had been in the Band of Hope a year.”
