“The Van has now finished its present tour in Hampshire. We have been working in the country 15 months, during which time about 60 parishes have been visited, and £144 worth of literature, principally Bibles and Prayer Books, have been sold. In our last Hampshire village a happy and profitable time was spent. Two meetings were held in the tap rooms of two disused public houses, where the bell to call the villagers to the meetings is hung in place of the sign board. One evening, having no meeting, we invited a number of young men, into the van, and after a little talk began a gospel meeting, with the result that we believe two made up their minds to live better lives, and in front of their companions for the first time in their life prayed to God for forgiveness. We find the magic lantern a great attraction in the country, and being supplied with several sets of slides from our lantern department can generally get crowds to the meetings, and have had open testimony to the spiritual good obtained at the Lantern Services. We are now touring in Surrey, and feeling that the winter has set in, we ask the prayers of all C.A. friends that we may obtain the Divine strength needed to stand against the trials and difficulties which especially arise when standing out on commons, &c, in the midst of frost and snow. J. Martin Collins, Capt. of the van 'Canterbury.'”
