UPHILL, Captain Henry  (1875-1956) – lecturer

Reference
H. Wheeler, ‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“' An overflowing church.' Hessenford, Cornwall. - The Church Army Van, in charge of Captain Uphill, visited this parish on the 6th, and remained for a week, during which time Capt. Auphill gave addresses every evening in the large schoolroom to crowded congregations, except on Wednesday evenings, when there was a service in the parish church. All the addresses, except one, were illustrated by the magic lantern, and were very earnest, pointed, and practical. The children's service in the church on Sunday afternoon was very largely attended, and was instructive ad profitable, not only for the children, but to adults, many of whom were present. On Sunday evening, Capt. Uphill delivered a most interesting and instructive lecture at St. Nicholas' church, Downderry, in this parish, to a crowded congregation, the subject being the life of our blessed Lord. It must be regretted that so many were unable to gain entrance to the church, which was filled long before divine service commenced. Rev. H. Wheeler (Vicar).”
