SMITH, Captain T.  (fl. 1890s-1900s) – lecturer

Reference
‘The Church's Holy War’ in Church Army gazette

“'Lasting Food.' - Mirfield, The Parish Church. - At the invitation of the vicar, the parish was vsisted by a C.A. Van, under the direction of Capt. Smith, who was assited by two cadets. The Van was stationed in close proximity to Lee Green Schoolroom, in which nearly all the meetings were held. The vicar (the Rev. H. Walsham How) was resent at the opening service on Jan. 2, and delivered a stirring address, in the course of which he introduced Capt. Smith to those who were present. It was most encouraging to notice that on each successive night the number of those who attended increased, and at the final service, which was held on Sunday, Jan. 15, every available seat was occupied. The lantern lectures were also most popular and interesting. Those who attended the services showed their gratitude by the substantial hospitality which they offered to Capt. Smith and his two working cadets; in fact, the captain has just told me that now (a week after the mission) they are still feeding on provisions supplied by their many friends at Mirfield. W.G.B., for Capt. Wood.”
