“'A Birthday Party': Sutton Cheney. - On Friday, a gathering of a very interesting character took place in the Schoolroom. In Febuary last a weekly Sewing Meeting was started in the Parish in connection with the Church Army; the members have since increased to twenty. As there exists in Higham-on-the-Hill a flourishing C.A. Sewing Class, a happy thought occured to a worker that might be pleasant and profitable for the members of both neighbouring parishes to meet together. The day chosen was the birthday of Capt. Wood, the Evangelist who first brought the C.A. under the notice of this district; the place fixed upon was Sutton Cheney. Accordingly the members from Higham, and some Hinckley friends kindly drove over to the tea, which was provided by the Sutton members to increase their funds. A private Meeting, for members only, conducted by Capts. Wood and Coleman ('Worcester' Van I. and II.), was held at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.. About fifty persons sat down to a prettily laid out tea in the Schoolroom. At 7.45 p.m. the room was trown open to the public, and an interesting and impressive address on 'Some Scenes from the Life of St. Paul,' illustratted by the Lantern, was delivered by Capts. Wood and Coleman.”
