“Leicestershire.-For sixteen years this Union has been at work with varied experiences, but never, we learn from the report before us, with such bright prospects as at present. The general advance in temperance sentiment amongst the community, and the Gospel temperance movement in the town, were found very helpful. The annual and special meetings were succesful. 56 dissolving view lectures were given, 3 workers' meetings for counsel and encouragement were held, as many as 26 new societies were added to the list,-bringing the number up to 100, several villages were missioned with a view to forming new societies, a speakers' library was kept in operation, the two agents, Messrs. Palmer and Payne, did excellent at service, addressing between them 605 meetings during the year. Whilst, notwithstanding all this effort, the funds, instead of exhaustion, show a slight improvement. We are sure our readers will rejoice in the activity and success of this important Union.”
